සුබෝදානි පාවුලු වසන්තය

සුබෝදානි.........

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year or else Aluth Avurudda in Sinhala and Puthandu in Tamil is a traditional festival celebrated by the Sinhala and Tamil communities in Sri Lanka. The festival usually falls on April 13th which is known to be the conclusion of the old year and 14th which is known to be the beginning of a new year. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year is a highly anticipated cultural festival in Sri Lanka.

On April 29th, 2023, St. Paul's B.M.V celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with its students & teachers. It was a memorable and festive occasion which filled with happiness and excitement. The celebration started with the lighting of the hearth, known as the Kiri Ithireema in Sinhala, which is a significant symbol of prosperity in this celebration. The occasion was followed by the traditional Sri Lankan games such as "kana mutti", "Aliyata Asa Thabima", and "Kaba Adeema" which the students enjoyed playing along with the school staff.

The New Year celebration event at the school brought together all the teachers, prefects, and students. In addition to traditional New Year activities, the event also included games for teachers and prefects. Of course, those games were a fun and engaging way for everyone to come together, relax, and have some fun.

The celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year at St. Paul's B.M.V was not only a memorable event, but it also promoted cultural awareness and unity among the students. The event showcased the diversity of Sri Lanka's cultural heritage and provided an opportunity for the students to appreciate and respect each other's cultures and traditions.

In conclusion, the celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year at St. Paul's B.M.V was a resounding success. The school's commitment to promoting cultural awareness and unity through events like this is commendable, and through that students were able to learn and appreciate the traditions of Sri Lanka. It is a wonderful example of how cultural celebrations can bring people together and foster mutual understanding and respect.

A special thanks goes out to our Principal, Rev. Sr. Rianna, all the loving teachers, prefects, non-academic staff, and our dear parents who made the New Year celebration event a huge success. Their hard work, dedication, and teamwork helped to create a fun and engaging atmosphere that brought together students & teachers. Without their effort and support, the event would not have been possible. The teachers and prefects, in particular, played a crucial role in organizing and running the games and activities, which not only provided entertainment but also promoted teamwork and collaboration.

We are more than happy to announce that "සුබෝදානි පාවුලු වසන්තය" which gives out the meaning of "පාවුලු පාසලට සුබ උදානය" was a successful event. THANKYOU !
